Dhanni Cattle: Origin, Characteristics, Uses, Photo

The Dhanni cattle are a multipurpose breed of cattle originating in Punjab province of Pakistan (mainly in Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Rawalpindi). It is used for many purposes in it’s native area.

The breed is used for milk, meat and draught purposes and also for ploughing. The breed has many color patterns. And they have different names according to their color patterns.

The animals with white coat with black spots are called Chitta Burga. Black coat with white spots animals are called Kala Burga.

The animals with white mottles with brown and black patches are called Nuqra. And the animals with red coat with white spots are called Ratta Burga.

Dhanni Cattle Characteristics

Dhanni cattle are of medium sized animals with compact sized body. They have comparatively straight back, small head and fine skin.

There are many color patterns of the Dhanni cattle, but majority of the animals consists of black or red/brown spots on a white coat. Both bulls and cows usually have horns, and their horns are stumpy.

They have alert but small ears. They have tight sheath, small dewlap and compact hump. The cows have relatively small udder.

The Dhanni cattle are multipurpose animals. They are used for both milk and meat production. And also used for draught purposes, including ploughing.
