The Dangi cattle are a draught breed of cattle which are indigenous to India. It originated in the hilly tracts of Dangs comprising the Nasik and Ahmednagar disticts in Maharashtra state.
The breed has taken it’s name from it’s native place. The Dangs is a hilly tract with heavy rainfall and very poor agricultural economy.
The Dangi cattle breed is similar to the Deoni cattle in appearance, and it appears to fit into the group of cattle represented by the Gir, Sahiwal and Red Sindhi.
The breed is very hardy and has become well-known on account of it’s hardy nature and it’s ability to work hard under heavy rainfall conditions. And these animals are extensively used for harrowing, ploughing and other agricultural operations.

Dangi Cattle Characteristics
Dangi cattle are medium sized animals with deep bodies and generally of ponderous build. They are usually of broken red and white or black and white color.
Both bulls and cows usually have horns. And their horns are short and thick with lateral pointing tips. Some animals are also available with inward pointing horns or downward pointing horn tips. They have relatively small head with a slightly protruding forehead.
Skin of Dangi cattle breed secretes an oil element that enables them to tolerate heavy rains. They have large muzzle and their ears are relatively small.
They have powerful fore and hind quarters with a short back well-coupled, and their legs are short and stout. The hooves are black and flint-like and are exceptionally hardy.

The Dangi are a draught cattle breed. They are suitable and used for agricultural operations.
Special Notes
Dangi cattle are very hardy and strong animals. They are primarily a medium-slow draft animals. They are well known for their excellent working qualities in heavy rain and in rice fields and also on the hilly tracks.
They don’t require quality foods much, and can survive mostly on grazing alone. The cows are relatively poor milkers and can produce about 430 kg of milk per lactation. Their milk is of very good quality containing about 4.3 percent of fat content.
