Parlor Roller Pigeon: Origin, Characteristics, Uses

The Parlor Roller pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon from United Kingdom. It is actually from Scotland and was developed over many years of selective breeding.

This breed and all other varieties of domesticated pigeons, all are descendants from the rock pigeon.

The Parlor Roller pigeon breed is known for it’s unique, involuntary, performance of turning somersaults on the ground.

Parlor Roller pigeon is an average sized bird with beautiful and unique appearance. It comes in two types: Parlor or Ground Tumblers and the Parlor Roller.

The Parlor or Ground Tumblers do one or two somersaults, coming to land squarely on their feet.

The Parlor Roller pigeon is a very active and hardy breed of domesticated pigeon. These birds usually lose the ability to fly well after they reach maturity.

Although it is usually grouped in the Flying/Sporting group of pigeons by the fanciers in the United States. This is because parlor roller competitions are based almost solely on the distance that the animal rolls on the ground and the appearance of the animal is a secondary consideration.
