The Cesky Fousek dog is a breed of versatile gun dog. It is medium in size and very beautiful. It is also known by some other names such as Bohemian Wire-haired, Pointing Griffon, Rough-coated Bohemian Pointer and Barbu tchèque.
The Cesky Fousek dog breed was originated from Czech Republic. The written standards for the breed were first established in the nineteenth Century. The breed nearly became extinct in the 1920s, and was saved by breeding with Stichelhaars.
The Cesky Fousek was the most widely kept wirehaired Pointing dog in the region of the present day Czech and Slovakian Republics in the time before the first World War. This World War and it’s consequences were responsible for the Cesky Fousek nearly dying out in the Twenties.
The regeneration of the breed was implemented. The foundation for this regeneration was brought about by some of the original typical specimen from which the modern type of Cesky Fousek was evolved by planned breeding.
Currently total numbers of these dogs are in second place for all hunting breeds used in the Czech and Slovakian Republics. The Cesky Fousek is a gundog belonging to the family of wirehaired pointers of Continental Europe.
Acknowledged by the United Kennel Club in 1996, the original breeding association remains active today; and members should be deservedly proud of their successful efforts. A much-loved family pet, the Cesky Fousek still retains its title as a prosperous hunter, whether they are on woodland, in the field or in water.[1]
Cesky Fousek Dog Characteristics
The Cesky Fousek dogs are of medium-size, and they are very beautiful. They are wirehaired, and have the beard and moustache common to the wirehaired breeds. There is a dramatic difference in size between the males and females of this breed.
The breed comes with a coarse coat, and is an athletically built dog with a wiry, muscular body. Most noticeable trait of these dogs is their distinguishing facial fur. Their soft, bushy eyebrows, moustache and beard are what make them so recognisable.
Their velvetly ears hang loosely to the side of their face, with their endearing almond-shaped eyes are deep-set, and can be an amber or brown color. Their leathery nose should have large nares and must be dark brown. The top lip will hang marginally over the bottom one.
The long back of the Cesky Fousek dog should slope downwards from the withers, and their chest is firm and deep, supported by strong and straight limbs. Their tails are commonly docked. As they are water dogs, so their toes are webbed, and they have a double coat.
The Cesky Fousek dogs appear in a variety of colors. Their common coat coloration include solid brown, dark roan with white spots, dark roan without white spots and brown with white markings.
The Cesky Fousek is a medium sized dog. Their average body height is between 24 and 26 inches at the withers for males, and between 23 and 24 inches for the females. Average live body weight of the mature dogs is between 28 and 34 kg for males, and between 22 and 28 kg for the females.
Temperament
The Cesky Fousek is a hunting dog and it is able to adapt to any sort of terrain and type of hunting. It can be used for upland and waterfowl hunting, as well as tracking large game. It is a fantastic family dog as well as excellent hunting dog.
These dogs are generally gentle by nature. They are fantastic with children, and they love having someone to play with. They can equally live contentedly alongside other animals, even cats, as long as they have done so from a young age.
Lifespan
Average lifespan of the Cesky Fousek dog is between 12 and 15 years.
Feeding
How much a mature dog eats depends on it’s size, age, build, metabolism and activity level. Dogs are individuals, just like people, and they don’t all need the same amount of food.
