The Clumber Spaniel dog is a breed of dog of the spaniel type. It is the largest of the spaniels and comes in predominantly white color with either lemon or orange markings. And the breed is very beautiful.
The Clumber Spaniel beed was developed in the United Kingdom. The name of the breed is taken from Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire where the breed was first developed.
The Clumber Spaniel is a gundog that specializes in hunting in heavy cover. These dogs are gentle and loyal, and can act aloof with strangers. They have several habits which could be considered disadvantages, including a constant shedding of their coat and snoring.
Exact history of the Clumber Spaniel dog breed is uncertain prior to the mid-19th century with two theories being prevalent. The breed has been kept and bred by various members of the British Royal Family, including Prince Albert, King Edward VII and King George V.
The breed was introduced into Canada in the year of 1844, and in 1884 it became one of the first ten breeds recognised by the American Kennel Club (AKC).
Currently the breed is ranking 121st among the 155 breeds and varieties recognized by the American Kennel Club.[1]
Clumber Spaniel Dog Characteristics
The Clumber Spaniel dogs are medium in size and they are very beautiful. They have long and heavy body, and they are the large of the spaniels.
The Clumber Spaniel is similar in shape to the smaller Sussex Spaniel. The Clumber Spaniel has a heavy bone structure and has a massive ‘melting head with a mournful and dopey expression, a square nose and muzzle, and large vine-leaf shaped ears.
Freckles on the muzzle and front legs are common. Its coat is dense, weather-resistant, straight, and flat with feathering around the ears, belly and legs.
The Clumber Spaniel dogs are predominantly white in color with lemon, brown or orange markings around the eyes and the base of the tail.
As a medium sized dog breed, average body height of the mature dog is between 17 and 20 inches at the withers. And their average live body weight is between 25 and 39 kg.
Temperament
Temperament of the Clumber Spaniel dog is described as gentle, loyal and affectionate, but dignified and aloof with strangers. They can appear to be a sedate breed and enjoy curling up on the couch, eating and sleeping.
