Thrianta Rabbit: Origin, Characteristics, Uses

The Thrianta rabbit is a small to medium sized animal with a stunning orange-red fur. It is a very beautiful rabbit breed that originated in the Netherlands. But the Thrianta rabbits were further developed in Germany in the early 1980s, before being imported into the United Kingdom.

The breed was actually created for the House of Orange-Nassau. The first Thrianta rabbit was discovered by John Deflori in the Swiss Alps. The breed was named after the ancient name for the Drenthe region.

Exact time of the creation of this breed is not clear. But the experts believe that the Thrianta rabbit was first developed during the 1930s. H. Andreae, who was a school teacher bred a red-orange rabbit as a tribute to the country’s Royal family (the House of Orange-Nassau).

For creating a red rabbit, H. Andreae put Black and Tans, Havanas and self-colored Tortoise Papilon together. However, the Thrianta rabbit arrived in the United States during the 1990s from both England and Netherlands. Today the breed is popular as pets.

Thrianta Rabbit Characteristics

The Thrianta rabbits are medium sized breed with a compact, soft, rounded and balanced body. The does are more slight and feminine in appearance whereas the bucks are decidedly masculine looking. The breed has a coat which is scarlet and orange.

The coloring of the Thrianta rabbit has similarity to the color of Irish Setter. They have straight ears which are supposed to be red all around. They have fawn coloring beneath their tail and paws.
