The African Owl pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon. It was originated in Tunisia and actually was developed over many years of selective breeding.
This breed and other varieties of domesticated pigeons, all are descendants from the feral or wild rock pigeon. It was imported into England from Tunis during the 19th century. It is also known as Foreign Owl.
The African Owl pigeon is well known for it’s short beak, which gives the breed the ‘Owl‘ name due to the size and shape.

African Owl Pigeon Appearance
African Owl pigeon is an average sized breed with very beautiful and uncommon appearance. It is actually noted for it’s very short beak and rounded head.
These birds should have a very ball-shaped head, which these birds carry held back above a thrust out chest. They have a crest of feathers running down the front of their breast. This crest of feathers is called the jabot, and also known as a tie or cravat.
